Buy the Old Man a Stamp
Dear friend,
Let’s be plain about it, because a mumbled ask is worse than no ask at all, and that’s a free lesson before we’ve even started.
The letters are free. They always will be. Tilley doesn’t believe in putting the good stuff behind a turnstile, because the whole point of a letter is that it arrives.
But. If a letter ever made you money, or saved you from spending it foolishly, or simply made you snort into your tea, you are welcome to buy the old man a stamp. Not because he needs it. Because reciprocity is the oldest law in selling, and Tilley would be a poor teacher if he didn’t let you practise it.
Choose your postage:
Every stamp goes toward keeping the letters free, the archive open, and the ink flowing. No stamp buys you anything extra, and that’s the point. A gift with strings is an invoice in a party hat.

P.S.If money’s tight, the finest stamp you can buy costs nothing: forward a letter to one person who needs it. That’s worth more to Tilley than the twenty, and he means it.
