Who We Are

benbtilley.com is operated by Ben Tilley, trading as BenBTilley (“we”, “us”). Ben B. Tilley, the letter-writer, is a pen name; the About page tells that story honestly. For anything in this policy, write to hello@benbtilley.com.

What We Collect, and Why

Your email address, if you clip the coupon and subscribe to the letters. We use it for exactly one thing: sending you the letters and occasional news of the Catalogue. The lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any moment with the unsubscribe link in every email. No unsubscribe link ever leads to a guilt trip.

Purchase information, if you buy from the Catalogue or feed the Stamp Fund. Payments are handled entirely by our payment provider; we receive your name, email, and what you bought, so we can deliver it and honour the Tilley Guarantee. We never see or store your card details. The lawful basis is the contract between us: you bought a thing, we owe you the thing.

Anything you write to us, letters to the Tilley desk included. We keep correspondence so we can reply and remember what we said, the coal man taught us that much.

Ordinary server records, kept briefly by our hosting provider for security and to keep the site standing, as every website’s host does.

What We Don’t Do

We don’t sell your data, rent it, swap it, or hand it to advertisers. We don’t send you anything you didn’t ask for. The list is the only land we own, and we treat it accordingly.

Where Your Data Lives

Subscriber emails are held by our email platform, and purchases by our payment provider, both acting as processors on our instructions. If you’d like their current names and privacy policies, write to us and we’ll point you straight at them.

How Long We Keep It

Subscriber details: until you unsubscribe, after which you’re removed from the working list. Purchase records: six years, because His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs insists, and Tilley does not argue with the taxman. Correspondence: as long as it stays useful, then it goes.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies of its own. If we add privacy-respecting analytics, it will count visits without profiling visitors. Third-party checkout and email-form services may set their own strictly functional cookies when you use them; that’s between you and their small print, which we’ve chosen partly for being tolerable.

Your Rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we’ll do so promptly and without fuss: one email to hello@benbtilley.comis the whole procedure. If you believe we’ve handled your data badly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though we’d consider it a personal failure if it ever came to that.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and any change that matters to subscribers gets said in a letter, plainly, not buried here and hoped about.
